Ster-Kinekor Launches Movies for the Hearing Impaired

Ster Kinekor Logo

Ster-Kinekor cinemas will be releasing films for the hearing impaired at selected cinemas from 30 January, launching with the romantic drama Love & Other Drugs, which stars starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway.

The films are all subtitled and screened at dedicated times at Ster-Kinekor cinemas in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, and Pretoria.

Hearing impaired customers will also be able to see these films at a discount as part Ster-Kinekor’s disability policy. Anyone with a disability is issued with a 60+ movie card which takes place in cinema and is done immediately at an administration cost of R11.00, with the discount being effective straight away. Alternatively customers can also join any of the other movie clubs including Discovery Vitality, Edgars Movie Club and the Ster-Kinekor Movie Club.

“It is a significant milestone for us to be able to make mainstream cinema accessible to this segment of our society and we hope that more subtitled films will be made available to us to show at our cinemas. Up until now hearing impaired audiences will have been able to only see sub titled foreign language films on our art circuit at Cinema Nouveau. “

The specific cinemas and show times for hearing impaired audiences can be found either at www.sterkinekor .com or in the cinema listings in newspapers and are as follows:

Ster-Kinekor Sandton, Cavendish, Brooklyn and Gateway at the following times:

Sunday 30 Jan performance 1

Monday 31 Jan performance 5

Tuesday 1 Feb performance 4

Wednesday 2 Feb performance 3

Thursday 3 Feb performance 4
